Elsie Rivas Gómez, Board President
Elsie Rivas Gómez joined the Aveson Charter Schools (ACS) board in 2018 and currently serves as Board President. As an ACS parent, she founded the Diversity Action Team and was a founding member of the Aveson Community Organization (ACO). Elsie has 24 years of higher education teaching experience, including in her current dual roles of professional development coordinator with the Puente Project at UC Berkeley’s Center for Educational Partnerships and as tenured associate professor of English at Pasadena City College (PCC). Over 14 years, she co-coordinated the PCC Puente Project and developed expertise in budget management, event planning, student travel programming, and family outreach and engagement. As a graduate student, Elsie had the honor of working as a K-8 substitute teacher and AVID instructional aide in San Diego Unified School District, where her passion for educational justice was ignited.
